This stunning, single vineyard wine, is made from 100% hand-picked fruit, with some fruit crushed, and some whole-bunch pressed, a process adopted which adds great complexity and structure to the final product. The Plunkett family vineyard lies 700 metres above sea level, offering a diversity of meso-climates, which has resulted a wonderful fruit-driven, aromatic red – a Shiraz illustrating pepper and spice intensity.
So what makes this region and the Plunkett site, in particular, so special? Plunkett’s family vineyard is nestled in the heart of the rugged and picturesque Strathbogie Ranges in Victoria’s north east. The vineyard lies on a breathtaking, ancient granite massif, rising 700 metres above sea level – just perfect for producing high quality fruit. It’s this altitude and soil composition, coupled with cool spring temperatures and rich summer sunshine, which is ideal for growing exceptional quality cool climate fruit. Intense fruit of magnificent dense colour that produces elegant wines that showcase beguiling aromatics and uniquely beautiful spicy flavour profiles.
Great quality cool climate reds are difficult to find these days, and quite often very pricey.
