Watching him chew his Creaser Salad (hold the Caesar dressing) and drink his little bottle of Evian is irritating me to no end. After his epic weight loss period these last few months The Turk has become completely a changed man, and I’m not just talking about his transformation from his Tony Soprano look to his now James Franco-esque appearance.
He catches me looking up from my T-Bone steak dripping in Mint Sauce at him and his little salad and he flashes me a smile that would make most people forgive him of any conceivable transgression. Not me. Not after he made me catch the early show because his new rule is to hit bed at 10 pm (who is he, Bette Milder?), then he refused any popcorn while watching Madagascar 2, no way am I letting that go, or after refusing a Cigar (it was a Cuban!) after the movie. Now a salad and water! Water! I take a big drag of my mug of beer and stare at him through narrowed judging eyes.
The yoga classes, the continuous drinking of green tea, the abandonment of all manners of sweets and chocolates. I have heard of clean living, but it seems to me like there’s too much “clean” and too little “living” in this set up right here. I offer him some fries which he politely rejects with a comment about trans-fat or something to that effect which makes me want to shove a burger down his throat. Instead I nod in agreement and make fun of our portly waiter as if to agree with him about the fries.
Where is my friend who used to spend hours eating burritos with me on the couch while watching the Drew Carey Show? Who is this trim lean stranger with the six pack and the tight skin who smiles too much and eats too little? What have you done with The Turk you imposter? Where is he? Tell me damn it! Tell me where my friend is!!!
And then, just like that, my answer comes through. The Turk pushes his salad away unfinished and asks me to ‘check this out’ pulling something out of his pocket.
