A View To Kill

Ok right before every new James Bond movie comes out in the theatre me and the guys have this tradition going back nearly 10 years to back when we were in school. What we do is we all meet up at one of our houses over the weekend and watch all the old James Bond movies. Call it a Bond-ing Marathon if you like.
It’s been getting harder and harder to accomplish this with each new Bond movie that comes out, adding another 2 hours or so on our already long schedule. This time around we are looking at watching 21 previous James Bond movies. You can only take so many Vodka Martinis shaken not stirred before you feel like playing a high stakes poker game with world class criminals and masterminds.
This year’s host of our Bond festival was Charlie Jay, the same host we have had for the past 5 Bond Marathons we have had. He seems to be naturally an expert at this; food is stocked up to the brim for these occasions. I am talking sweet popcorn, salty popcorn, caramel popcorn, he will have steaks on a BBQ set going outside, fries, chips, a tub full of beer, the works, it’s like a grand buffet of food to accompany you on your 007 odyssey.
The first 6 movies with Sean Connery usually go by in a breeze, the guys are excited, pumped up and ready for action, we hoard up on the food and sit back and watch in sheer awe. He usually sets up enough couches, bean bags, recliners, and rocking chairs to suit all our comfort issues. It’s a pretty big crowd that shows up for these things you have to bear in mind, there’s me, The Turk, Matt Hoffman, the Shamrock Crew, Stan who we only ever meet at these things, J. Hoover Sinclair who always shows up in a tux, Billy Flanagan (he usually leaves after the Connery run), Eddie Brock, Jim Shooter…the list just goes on and on.
With such a big crowd and past marathons going so well, expectations run high. Charlie Jay lives up to these expectations with ease. He’s got top of the line Blue Ray Dvd’s ready for our viewing pleasure, he’s got an awesome sound system that makes it seem we’re in a theater or what he likes to call the Entertainment Hub of Awesomeness, and finally for the screen with which we watch all the movies on, he has a Panalux 32 Inch High Definition LCD TV. This is a view to kill for.
Sheer high digital crisp picture quality, it’s easy on the eyes, sharply focused, it’s like driving an Aston Martin visually, sheer delight for your viewing pleasure. This is what gets us all the way past Roger Moore, the one George Lazenby, and Timothy Dalton pictures, right onto Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. This is what makes the experience great.
I have to say although we’re two days into it, watching our 18th Bond flick, with my eyes all watery and my stomach stuffed with food and drinks, I have enjoyed every single second of this, by the time I hit the cinema for the Quantam of Solace I will know I came in prepared and ready.
The best part is when the next Bond movie comes out a few years from now, we can do this all over again.
