I realize Ingrid Bergman is supposed to be one of the greatest actresses of all time but if I have to watch another black and white movie of hers I am going to die of chronic boredom. My girlfriend, Stacey Peruzzi, is a huge fan of these old movies of hers and many a weekend I am cruelly abducted and forced to culture myself by watching Hollywood in its golden years wrapped up with her on a couch in the living room.
This weekend however I am staging a protest Che Guevara style. What I have is a 10 pack of Village, BBC and Greater Union Movie tickets. Which means its another mad trip to the movies baby! Hot tasty popcorn, bucket loads of yummy refreshing beverages to wash it down, Choco Pops, big screens, laughing excited crowds, mad previews, the works!
And what a perfect time to score some tickets! Instead of staying at home and watching grainy copies of some Fellini picture we can get out of the house and watch some Mega Movie Blockbusters. Movie season is back in effect with the oncoming Christmas season and I plan to be there with bells on.
This then is my personal top 5 pick for the oncoming movies this festive season:
Number 5: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. – Come on, animated animals have been awesome since the ice age. The first movie was hilarious, this one promises to raise the stakes on the laughter scale, set at Rock The Crowd into Fits of Laughter. I just love those penguins! They are awesome!!!
Number 4: Australia – I am not one for musicals but Baz Luhrmann is one of our nation’s bona fide geniuses. His Romeo and Juliet was spectacular and his Moulin Rouge was an instant classic. This time he raises the stakes and goes all patriotic on us and I’ll be there watching with our nations flag draped around me. You go Jackman and Kidman!!
Number 3: Punisher: War Zone – The years last (I think) Marvel superhero epic, this one brings back lesser known violent vigilante Frank Castle aka The Punisher back to do what he does best by putting baddies six feet under with a belly full of lead. For all the action fan boys out there this movie is going to push the charts on the gore factor. If killing is his business, then business is good.
Number 2: Valkyrie – Ok, Tom Cruise is back, with an eye patch on! This World War II epic looks like something special. Brought from director Bryan Singer who made The Usual Suspects this one promises to be an intense suspense action flick that will keep you on the edge of your seat and then will probably push you off the edge of your seat where you will remain on the floor watching cause its just going to be that good. Show me the money!!!
Number 1: Quantum of Solace – There could be no other at number one; James Bond is back so make mine a Martini, shaken not stirred. Daniel Craig pours on the smooth cool of his debut with more all out action. Going to the movies for this one in anything less than a tuxedo will be undressing. Starting off exactly where the last movie left off this Bond promises to be a non stop thrill ride, where the only pause on the action is when he introduces himself. As Bond, James Bond.
Buckle up and get ready cause its going to be one bumpy ride at the movies.
